At the end of 2005 I stopped riding with the 'regular' Defiance braces and switched to the ‘shorter’ Defiance version as the longer braces weren’t fitting in to many of my motor cross boots. At that time I was riding without ACL’s in my knees and I was reluctant to wear the shorter version as I wasn’t sure I would get the maximum support I needed with the shorter leverage on the new braces. It's now a year since I started wearing the short Defiance – at first with a very weak right knee, and then following my ACL reconstruction. Although I’m tempted to try riding without the braces, I am of the opinion that prevention is better than any cure (!) and ultimately because the short version is much more comfortable, fits in my boots and it protects me very well. I now have no problems with the brace and I can hardly feel the brace while I’m riding. It does everything I’d expect from a brace.
